Dr Johann Wessels studied Medicine at the University of Pretoria. He qualified with the MBChB degree in 1991. Following his passion for palliative care and the relief of pain, he went on to obtain a Diploma in Anaesthetics  in 1993.  From 1993 to 2013 he did regular anaesthetic theatre cases while  simultaneously working as a Family Doctor. 

In 2007 Dr Wessels obtained his MFamMed Degree (which is a four year degree specialising in Family Medicine). 

Dr Wessels practiced for 24 years on the Bluff at the Bluff Medical and Dental Centre (Medicross) and in March 2020 he opened his new solus Practice at Entabeni Hospital. 

He is married to Tracey-Leigh, a Family Law Attorney & Mediator. He credits his wife’s excellent mediation skills as being the recipe for his good marriage. He has three children, Jayden & twins, Shae-Leigh & Christian. His three children are all studying medicine at the University of the Free State.
